As I was doing some winter cleaning I found this. Should I leave it as is or remove the dollars? If so, how to remove the dollars without damaging the card or the dollars.

Cut the tap off the card, that peel the tape off the dollar.

The condition of the coins will probably be affected by the tape. Depending on how much, they may have less collectable value, and only be face value.

If you don't want to damage the card, get an X-acto knife and trim the tape around the rims of the coins. The coins will provide enough of a gap that you should be able to extract them safely, and peeling the tape off the coins will be easy (though it might leave some residue).

a soak in acetone may help with the residue on the coins.

Alpha2814 + Debrajc = best all-around solution. Or, if not acetone, MEK (2-butanone).

The best thing for removing tape glue is wd40.
Try it first and you will see how well it works!

Just drop the entire mess into acetone.

How about just leaving it as is? I'd like to hear the story behind this. How old is it?

Heat from something like a blow dryer will also work when trying to remove tape and labels. The stickiness is lost and the label/tape comes right off.

The stickiness can return when the tape/label cools.

Acetone soak to rid the coins of the residue.

Got it for our 25th anniversary (big party). It's about 19 years old. Still together and married.

You know I like it.

Since this is a personal item, something you actually received on your anniversary, then I would leave it as-is.

However, for future reference, if anyone bought something like this at a yard sale or the like, then I agree with Garycrant that "Alpha2814 + Debrajc = best all-around solution."
