Just thought I would share with you all this 2008 $50 Gold Buffalo Struck-Through a Hair. The unique thing about it is the coin and hair are sealed in US Mint plastic.

Pretty cool!

So much for the mint's quality control program!

I see two arcs across the cheek--one appears to be raised metal, the other darker--or is that the struck through mark and the hair?

Interesting. I do not think it is a hair. Some sort of play on lightning taking place.

to the forum!

Can you show us a picture of the whole coin and one showing the coin in the mint wrapping?

I would also be interested in seeing the edge of the coin, if possible.

cwb, Here is a picture of the whole thing in it's US Mint wrapping. I will try to get a side view tomorrow and a better close up.

I thought it was a dog hair at first and tried to wipe it off, but it's in the package.

These pictures are tricking my eyes--is that lighter, coin-colored mark incuse or raised?

I took a look at it under the microscope and it's in the plastic not on the coin. The hair left in impression in the plastic and the light hits it in a way that it looks like an incuse line.

So is there a line on the coin, or just in the plastic?
