I recently purchased two Connecticut Coppers. One is a 1785 Bust Right Graded VG 10 BN and the other a 1787 Draped Bust Left VG Details. Both certified NGC.
I purchased a Henry Miller book but boy its a hard read and not very easy to follow.
Anyone out there can show me a way of identifying the correct Miller variety? Would sending it back to NGC, could they identify the correct Miller variety?
They are very interesting and so far is the earliest of American coinage I have a this time.
Thanks in advance
Dave

It just isn't that easy, Connecticuts can be tough. Sometimes it is the smallest detail that ID's the variety and wear and damage make it harder. As stated, if you post pictures someone may be able to help. The photos will need to be pretty clear though and of both sides.

I'll try to post pics as good as I can. They are in NGC cases. edweather, I have that list and also the book on varieties. As I stated the book is a hard read. If I can't and this community can't make heads on the coins I have, would it be good to send them back to NGC and see if they can't help with the varieties?

Whitman's encyclopedia of Colonial and early American coins is a pretty good book for IDing Colonials. The 1785 will probably be pretty easy, the 1787's are where it gets tough.

If yours are graded vg10, and vg details, there should be enough meat on them. The only issue is getting a decent photo to post. There are a couple of pros that will surely id the variety. Did NGC take photos? Maybe you could post the cert #s. If you want to sent them back to NGC and try and have them attributed, that's up to you.
