Yea, that's a Dremel tip job. How about the Real Hobo nickels, done with a pocketknife and piece of broken file plus much time on hands!, now those are COOL! (and expensive!)

I think the coin in the video is a horrendous waste of a decent Buffalo nickel. True hobo nickels incorporated the original image into the artist's design. This guy just blanked a Buffalo nickel, left LIBERTY and the date, and started working from a level surface. Give this hack a pencil and a piece of paper. It's more mutilation than art.

Overall, I think it's pretty cool. The video almost made me have a seizure but, there was a decent amount of manual engraving, a little more powered engraving and an unhinged ship captain in the end.

I don't remember if the reverse engraving was ever really shown but I don't think so. There's obviously something there to the buffalo's lower left.

I like these pieces when the engraving suits me. I'm with Druu that the original bust should be included and those happen to be my favorites!

All that aside, the original Buffalo nickel design is one of/if not my most favorite.

Thanks for posting the video! It's always nice seeing the process.

This nickel was one of the first hobos I tried. The lighthouse is on a Canadian 1912 one cent and is pictured with the hand gravers that I use.

@timnic44

Are those tools made for metal engraving? I'm not familiar with anything like that except wood-carving tools used on a lathe.

Yes, those tools are for metal engraving. Beautiful work has been done on guns and knives for centuries. Do a little googling to get ideas.

I like it better when they use the Indian as the main part and build off of it.

That Hobo nickel you made was amazing! Especially for one of your first!
