I have a 1942 penny the L in liberty looks like the I and is touching the outer rim. Is this a possible error coin?

I moved your post to the appropriate section for the proper attention.

Can you provide a picture of the coin?

to the family Mee!

Usually what you've described is a MAD, misaligned die, hit off center slightly, or at an angle...not completely flat onto the coin in the collar of the lower reverse die. This is common machining troubles, no value to them.

Pix are a must here when you have questions, only 100% way to finger these out, or you can get answers from those like myself who are used to living with a foot in mouth!

You'll need to do it from "Reply to Topic" at the top of this page. You can't upload pics from "Quick Replies" at the bottom of the page.
Take your time but...
Rest in Peace

Images will be more helpful. There are so many factors on coins, that at this point we would probably be guessing.
