Do you buy bullion coins to collect the various series by date as you would a coin collection or do you just buy for the reason of stacking?

I buy them for a type set of world bullion. I would think a lot of people would be more for the collecting aspect since if you are stacking there are cheaper bars/rounds out there. Of course just my thought as I do know some people have more "faith" in government-backed silver as well.

Both I guess for me, 1 is none 2 is 1, although no one knows I buy the bullion I hide 90% of it under lock and key and the other 10% I keep at my house.....in the wall so I can have something with me.
I don't have many but like to look at it sometimes

For me, a little of both, and it's not so much as "series by date" as it is different designs.

I'm not particularly fond of ASEs because I already have a few Walker halves and I dislike the ASE reverse. For what silver bullion stacking I do, I prefer private mint rounds. I have a gold Buffalo and some platinum $25 proofs, and that satisfies my bullion habit. When I get the itch to buy more gold, I look at modern commemoratives. They're not strictly bullion, but there are some attractive designs and their limited availability (at a price I'm willing to pay) helps keep me in line.

I collect the "silver" american eagles by date, mint mark as well as proof. They are the silver dollar series of my lifetime and I will pass them to my grandson.

A little of both.

I collect. I do not personally see any difference between collecting circulating coinage by non-circulating coinage, from my enjoyment value. 1990-2017 Kookaburra's with changing designs is as cool to me as 1964-2017 Kennedy's. Since the way I collect Kennedy's would be to have BU P&D and both clad and proof silver-- there is no chance of completing my Kennedy collection through pocket change. Or I collected Roosevelt dimes 1946-2017, there would be no chance of completing the collection through pocket change. I personally fail to see how one is collecting coins and the other is "just bullion" or anything like that. To me, circulating or NCLT, the vast majority of us are collecting the same way.

In fact, I like world bullion overall better than anything else-- as a collector. I collect bullion series, not type.

Secondary to that, I like the bullion aspect in which there is a metal value of the coin. I try to pick up most of my bullion coinage at spot plus no more than a dollar or two, so my collection is not numismatic value heavy.

With that being said- I still pay premium for some dates, just like I do some dates in a circulating collecting. Some years of bullion have a premium, such as 2011 Ukraine Archangel Michael over the years that follow.

I too for both reasons. Some of the govt. issued silver rounds are quite beautiful. I collect Panda's, Luna's, Britannia's, RCM issues, Libertads and of course ASE. I'll also look for one off examples or items that make a political statement like Liberty Dollars.I'll stack generic rounds and bars, as well as "constitutional" silver . .

I'm definitely more of a collector than a stacker. I like to get world bullion, I'm trying to get one from as many countries as possible, there was another thread on here recently that had a good list of world bullion. There's a few that change designs yearly that I get every year (Pandas, Rwanda, African Elephant, Queen's Beasts). I've never bought a roll of ASEs or SMLs like a true stacker, and I don't think I ever will. I also like to collect world silver crowns, and have started branching out into gold coins like sovereigns. I like the history of the older stuff. I agree with crazyglue in that I don't differentiate between circulating coinage and bullion as far as enjoyment value goes.

By series, date and mintmark for me. Then with my duplicates I like to stack them into piles and make them clink like poker chips. So both filling an album and duplicates are fun!

Last year I thought I was gonna stack government issued silver/private rounds. Already have 5 2016 silver maple leaf coins. But today I am thinking maybe just ONE is good enough and just try to work on a series by dates and whatnot. But at the same time if I need quick cash I would hate to break up a set. I guess that was kinda the reasoning behind my original question.

I do not actively search out the bullion market.

However, I have a reasonable accumulation of bullion junk silver. This has been formed from the winning of numismatic job lots from public auctions. In this sort of situation, I have valued the unwanted silver at a zero value, and have added this material to my bullion junk silver stack.

Such silver is regarded by me as being accumulated at zero cost, and comes as a bonus.

I typically purchase bullion ASE, one each year...more if I can afford it which is rarely since my source of mad money dried up last year and we are currently saving up for a family vacation this summer. I have purchased exactly two foreign bullion coins in my lifetime, neither of which I currently have. I have some foreign silver pieces as part of type collections (UK, Canada, and Mexico specifically) but beyond that, I do not own any foreign government bullion.

As a coin collection, I like especially bullion coins with animals on them. Not interested in stacking. If I am going to put money to work in gold and silver I will buy ETFs, futures contracts and gold miners.

I also like the idea of having gold and silver coins that represent the countries they either come from or are minted for.

Nothing beats a pre-2017 gold somalia elephant coin or silver elephant kilo coin.

I buy them to sell later. Yesterday was a good day to cull the herd of some 20F's and holed dollars. Gold may go higher, but it's on an uptrend, and the health insurance bill is due, so it was a good time for me to dump.

I'll admit it. I'm a stacker. Everything is in a safe deposit box.
