I thought this would be something fun to do, with something that is relatively uncommon in modern coins... for now.. just the obverse and reverse photos. The edge of the reverse looks thinner as it goes to the edge and an AM on the Queens cheek

Is it the raised "teeth" around the rim of the reverse 12 to 3 o'clock position? Also, I remember my 1975 dollars having a reverse die misalignment in the same direction.
papeldog, what you see on the queen's cheek is a bag mark from the reeding of another coin.

The reverse seems to have a start of a double strike with some double beads

Quote: Collar clash Bingo... now, what caused that to happen?

Die meets collar for some reason, if the reverse is the hammer die I guess it's the misalignment. Is the reverse the hammer die?

Very interesting. The heavier rim, is this a PL?

Collar clash -an error I'm not familiar with. I would have said the accumulations on the lettering of the obverse.

Would a just struck coin that failed to eject(partially ejected) and got struck again look like this?

The first error is not uncommon for the 1975 nickel dollar (I have even sold some MAD 1975 dollars on ebay recently). That is the misaligned reverse die. However, at some point, the misalignment was enough that the hammer (reverse) die came in contact with the collar die, and the edge of the rim reeding pattern was imparted onto the edge of the reverse die. So, we have a collar clash, but while the die was still misaligned, so the clashing of dies might have happened many times, to produce a strong clash mark. Compare the obverse rim to the reverse rim, to see the degree of mis-alignment. The offset is nearly into the main fields. The strong collar clash. Note the pattern is not similar to the denticles, but rather the reeding spacing. Close-up of the collar clash. I don't know if the weak strike with the collar die is the result of the mis-aligned dies, but certainly seems consistent with it for 1975.

I should add that this phenomena is much more common with silver George V 10c and 25c coins, if you look close enough... this is the only example I have seen in a modern coin.

Threw me off with the change of name however you said you were going to do it. Why is it that things seem so obvious after things have been spelled out? Thanks for the explanation.

This coin was featured in the May 2017 CN Journal as "Error of the Month"... Henry was nice enough to write it up.
