Let me start off with I have no idea what I am talking about so rimmed edge might not be the best way to describe this quarter. While putting some change in my coin jar I came across a quarter that first got my attention because it sounded different when it hit the table kinda like a old sliver quarter sounds. After looking at it I thought it kinda looked counterfeit like two quarter pressed together but how many people counterfeit quarters so I'm posting hoping someone with a bit more knowledge then myself might be able able to tell me more about my new conversation piece. Thank you all for your time in advance

That quarter has been damaged by acid. More information here: http://goccf.com/t/80773

I think the acid -- whatever kind it was -- would damage the copper portion of the coin faster than the nickel layers.

I know -- there seems to be an endless list of things that can happen during the minting process. It's kind of a let down to learn your quarter probably got left in a puddle of Coke.

Some types affect copper more. Others can affect the silver color on the clad coins. I don't which ones it which though. I never got into acid. (even in the 1960's)
