So I purchase a first commemorative mint set. Just a cheap nothing set bc I didn't have any liberty head nickels. I paid a dollar. I figured the originals had been swapped for circulated coins. Then I pulled them out to put in individual sleeves so they don't get worn more. However the rims on all five are impeccable, and shiny, and prestine. so not sure what to make of them. The obverse sides are pretty worn, however the reverses are actually not bad. They aren't anywhere near ms but I would like to know more about your the rims are so shiny, any thoughts?

That's what I been leaning towards. Although, I don't know how long they have been in this folder casing. And I know it's a NOTHING set, but for a buck, good deal. The obverse and reverse sides don't appear at all to be polished though, I don't know why someone would only polish the rims

I moved the thread since these aren't a variety or error coins.
Rest in Peace

That outfit is notorious for buffing their coins in those period folders. Yea best thing you can do is dump the folders, and never pay much for their....stuff.

If you could even tell, I'm assuming the 1912 wasn't an S.

For a dollar, I would have gotten it.

They were polished (or at least cleaned) circulated coins to start with. The exposed faces toned down some butthe holder kept the air away from the edges and they didn't oxidize the same way.

Is it a 1912 S?

You would really have something then!

Could purchase for $1, I would have gotten it if I was offered it!
