Ten minutes to midnight, I had to get it in! Thanks to Thulium for the idea and assist. (And thanks for pointing out the gap between F and the memorial. I usually just look for serifs in G at the initials.) I just bought this in a 1999 S proof set, hopefully a CAM. If so, it'll go with my CRHed WAM. Your thoughts welcome! I should have pictures and *hopefully* good news Saturday. Unless the seller switches the set out on me..

This seller pic is even worse than the other! Of course, I assume you've cropped the others out and this is what you're left with. From what I can tell, it looks like a CAM to me. I hope you get some good news come Saturday!

Quote: This seller pic is even worse than the other It's pretty blurry...but that's often the case. I'm betting on a CAM too.

Now you guys have me going cross-eyed looking at 1999-S proof sets on ebay! It's amazing how many don't even show the reverse. Throw us a bone sellers!

Thought Coop said last night that M had to be centered, or did I get that wrong?

Quote: Thought Coop said last night that M had to be centered, or did I get that wrong? The M is more centered on the Wide AM variety. It is farther to the left on the Close AM. That's why it's called a Close AM, because the A & M are closer to each other.

The markers described are accurate but I'll add that you're looking for opposites between proofs and business strikes. Proof CAM - nice. Business WAM - nice. It's the unintentional interchange of reverse dies.

Crazy, I wasn't CRHing last night -- I was eBayH-ing! It's part of a proof set, although the picture doesn't give the slightest hint of a mirror finish. Spruett, this is the good picture. I found two *maybe* listings with bad pics and asked for a second shot of the reverse. First was a dud, second was this one. Good luck with your search! All I've seen is that 1998 sets are even harder to come by, and those usually have fewer pictures. Maybe 1999 gets more pics because sellers want to show off the quarters too? I'm a little concerned I haven't heard back from the seller yet. No shipping info, or indication that it shipped. How will I get it Saturday if it's still in his possession? [Unless seller is lurking and found this thread. Hello, seller.] [edit: Adding the bad picture.]

Hello, seller.] that's why I don't talk about my finds until I know they've shipped. But in this case, if the seller didn't see the CAM cent before they sold it to you, they probably won't have found this thread either. Keeping a lid on things until you get tracking info is always a good idea.

Haha, that's why I wanted to discuss with you via email before posting. I thought someone on ccf might find it before I bought it. Looks like I might still have jumped the gun with posting because I didn't consider the possibility of seller finding it.

Quote: I thought someone on ccf might find it before I bought it. If the second, fuzzier pic was on the auction--I recall spotting it, but I couldn't see the details well enough. If I did, I would have let you know But I wouldn't worry too much about the auction. Most sellers won't ever pick up on something special about the reverse of that cent. And if they have your money, they should ship the coins. Sometimes it takes a day or two for the tracking info to be posted.

The 1993 proof cents are the exception to the rule. All 1993 cents, even proofs are close 'AM' cents.

You guys got me, so I purchased one 1999 set and have my eye on a few more depending on bids. The hunt is fun and the risk is always there. I'll still have a 9-coin proof set no matter what!

I've had a heck of a time with mine: seller waiting until the end of the following day to print a shipping label, then it took 24 hours from there for USPS to get their hands on it. I was positive it was a CAM, but we'll see what I actually get.. Quote: It is...even if there are a few more hunters now--good luck everyone! More hunters = early bird gets the worm. I just hope we don't end up bidding prices up against each other! Email list for CAM hunting?
