Quote: it took 24 hours from there for USPS to get their hands on it. So it's shipping? Excellent--keep us updated.

Quote: Time for pictures! Or you can wait until it ships. To avoid utter embarassment, I'll wait until I receive it and then if it is a CAM, I'll post the pic I used to buy it. You guys wouldn't happen to be watching and/or bidding on this one, would you?

How many proof sets is that? Did you see pics of the reverses? I haven't seen any more good bets lately. That Dru found one soon after mine is pretty good luck! As I wrote, the incidence of 99 proof CAMs to WAMs is ~ 1/1000.

I haven't bid on any lots, especially where there's no reverse shot. It would be too easy to amass a stack of regular 1999 proof sets. It's more fun to play the scratchers when you're pretty sure you'll win. Mine shipped, but he took his time. Printed the label near midnight the day after I paid, and it pinged at a USPS location maybe 11:45 pm the day after. I still don't think this counts as within one business day. [edit: Thulium, did you compare your two for die markers? (I'm not even sure those exist on proofs -- I know it's a lot easier to find them on business strikes.) If mine shows up, I'll get pics if you want to look for markers, so we can confirm it's one die pairing that cranked out what we're looking for.]

Quote: Thulium, did you compare your two for die markers? I'm not good with proof die markers either, but what I've read about CAM proofs written by the experts--they have only confirmed one die each for 98 and 99, est. total struck @ 2500 and 3500 (99 is more common).

Quote: How many proof sets is that? Did you see pics of the reverses? No reverse pics. But, for the current price (or even a bit higher) it's okay. I'm pretty sure for the right price on the lot I can resell them individually for more if there's nothing special. If I win, I promise not to resell them with fuzzy pics of the reverse.

Also--If you're buying the 1999 proof sets with the quarters, be sure to take a close look at the Pennsylvania proof-- there's a very nice DDO (see second listing on page)

That one is sweet. A side by side shows hot it compares with a normal coin.

it's a dramatic DDO--but I bet few proof quarters are examined closely.

I just read Wexler's article on the discovery of the proof Pennsylvania quarter doubled die discovery, and he estimates population at 1,500 -- which he cites as the average die life of proof quarters. http://www.coinworld.com/news/us-co...red.all.htmlThulium, do you have an article or link that has the 2,500 and 3,500 figures for 1998 and 1999 CAMs? I wasn't able to find figures on die life of proof cents. Anyway, I got the proof set today. It finally stops me from wondering why it took so long and what the seller could be doing to MY coins. I've got some bad news -- no Pennsylvania DDO in the set. But... It's party time! Now I won't have to argue that the item received isn't the same as the item pictured! *Maybe* a snarky comment about shipping delay, but I'm headed to leave some positive feedback now!

Congrats!
So the 1999 S proof cent CAM is what to look for. Am I correct?

Quote: So the 1999 S proof cent CAM is what to look for. Am I correct? Aye! You want CAMs in 1992/1992D (business strike), 1998S (proof) and 1999S (proof). You want WAMs in 1998, 1999, 2000 (all business strikes). Also look for 1996 WAM, one of which was reported but never authenticated. The sudden surge in interest from ccf is hitting ebay now. I saw a listing with front/back pictures, and close ups of the cent only. I asked about that and she said someone else had asked for close ups. Thulium/Spruett, who's going to fess up?

It certainly wasn't me. That would spoil the fun!
Oh, and Congrats! Good eye.
