Hi All,

Spotted this on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/China-1909-...AOSwA3dYTYxk

Check out the center of the coin - it has an extra "Year" character in the middle. If you check out other Kiau Chau 10c coins on ebay, none have that extra character, and I can't spot any like them on worthpoint. Its not a proof - proofs have the exact same design it seems.

1) Could it be a fake? These are popular coins
2) Is it a counterstamp? Counterstamps are usually cruder
3) An unlisted variety?

Very interesting.
I just wanted to clarify, because I did not read your post correctly and then spent a few minutes trying to figure out what character that was, then realized that you said it already.
It is the Chinese character for the word "year". Maybe everybody else read that on their own, but thought I would add this for anyone as slow as me....

I do NOT think that it is a counter stamp, because there is no evidence of bruising (which would have happened post mint), to the heraldic eagle on the center, on the opposite side of the coin.
The central character in it's own round field is a part of the die design. If this character does not normally appear, then this design is a separate sub type, not a variety.

Definitely a counterfeit. Every single coin this seller sold is not genuine. Some people just have too much money to waste.

If gxseries says it's a counterfeit, it is a safe bet 'London to a brick on', that it is a counterfeit.
