Hi, this is my first post. Let me start by saying that I'm new to numismatics and I have a very small collection. There I have found this one, the only thing I know is that it's Chinese and it's a token. And it's 2cm diameter. Any idea from which period is it from or wether it has any kind of value or not? Thanks for your time.

to the family! It is indeed a "token", but Chinese, who knows. We'd need pix of both sides to fully ID, but am pretty sure its nothing more than an arcade token. The coolie hat is a symbol of all Southeast Asian countries...rice paddies. Maybe it came in a box of Chinese Rice Crispies"! It is cast nonetheless, making non-monetary and worth very little, I'm thinking from a Chinatown establishment?

Sorry, this is the obverse. For more info, I've had this since my childhood, and I'm now 39. I'm also intrigued by the writing. It's 2cm diameter.

Those characters don't even look right, like a westerners version of Chinese letters, bad rendition. I'm guessing it is fairly light, looks aluminum or tin. Still think it's a modern day gaming token. Used to see stuff like this in Chinatown in Chicago when I was a kid in the late 50's, sold as good luck or to throw in fish ponds. Yea, the Chinese had Japanese Koi!

By the way, would you know what these characters, althought westernized, might mean? (And you're right, it is very, very light)

No, don't know Chinese characters at all, just match from resource site when trying to finger out dates!

@fratervoid, thanks for post and welcome to CCF. I agree that your piece is unlikely to be a coin, but I think that the two characters on the rev are just written in a different script than the standard. Someone more fluent than I should weigh in, but the first character looks to me like shou (third tone), which can be translated as "hand".

Those are not Chinese characters. Since it is your childhood treasure, it is priceless to you.

Thank you all, I've found what this is about! It's a token from a chance game from Spain which dates back to XVIII century. It was called "juego de los chinos", "dados chinos" or simply "chinos". It had its ups and downs during the years but was fairly popular again in Spain during the 60's and 70's, with several variants, which would perfecly explain why I have it. It has very little value, but as silverai said,it's a childhood treasure. Still I wonder about the characters, which simply may mean nothing at all.
Thank you!

Could this be a carved coin - someone's oriental version of the Hobo nickel? Perhaps a weight to diameter/thickness ration would give a clue.
