This is from John Hughey (he specializes in creating macabre coins usually having a skull or skeletal theme):



The original portrait corresponded closely to what is seen in certain Aztec stone carvings:



The alteration brings into play the Aztec fascination with skulls displayed in other of their stoneworking:
