Sorry if this is a repeat. Issues. I received this as change the other week and thought someone had ground the inside edge. It's not. It's the the planchet untouched around Washington's profile I believe. Whaddya think?

It looks like it may have been the start of a "hobo" quarter.

That smooth edge is not lower, it's the same height as the rest of the quarter. That's what intrigues me. Untouched planchet for sure.

Your coin is just a damaged coin. How it was damaged is anyone's guess but it certainly did not leave the mint looking this way. PSD/ PMD

Probably fastened a dime in the center and then sanded the edge off of the coin. Leaving the center untouched. so there is probably a dime out there ruined as well.
