I think I found a 1982 P half dollar without the FG initials. How rare are they?

Not terribly rare, but its value depends on the condition. You'd also have to check the die markers (I think there's a quirk with the 1 in the date) to make sure it's the over polished "no FG" and not a Grease Filled Die "no FG."

Please do not post multiple threads asking the same question. I have removed the other thread about this same topic.

This one comes complete with rolling machine circular scratches. I got out the magnifying glass and it doesn't look to have the initials at all.

Sorry about the black lines in the photos. I have this LED bulb and it seems to black streak the pics.

It would be a "hole filler" in that condition for me. Not much if any premium, but it does look like the FG is totally missing.

The obverse of the coin was damaged by a coin wrapper. Basically it is now worth what it says on the reverse.

Eh, if you wanted to sell it, you could probably get a few bucks on ebay. Maybe two bucks in profit after fees, shipping, and the 50 cent face value of the coin. You would need lighting that didn't emphasize the flaws so much though. Alternatively, you could keep it and display it reverse side up? It does look like the true "no FG" and not some Greaser -- you the 1 is missing part of its base. You can check out PCGS coinfacts for comparison pictures, but be aware that the main image used for the regular strike 1982 P is the "No FG" variety. You'll have to use the secondary images on the right to see the obverse of the normal 1982 P. As far as I recall, all of the "no FG" images were correct.

Nice find. The error is known to occur on some of the 1966, 1973, 1982, and 1972-D halves, with the latter being the rarest.

The 1982-P without the FG can't be that rare as I found another one in the same box. It does not have the circular marks on the obverse. It is in much better shape that the one I pictured. I'll include a photo of the second when I get a chance.

Thanks!

They aren't super rare, but I did manage to sell one on ebay a few months back for $8 plus shipping. A decent return on my 50 cent investment!
