I came across this online paired with a normal version of the note. There was a couple of bad pictures provided but at about $10 I decided it was worth the risk.

It's the Japanese Occupation of Burma 1942 5 Rupees but printed in the color of the 10 Rupee?! Assumedly an error or a very clever fake/alteration? Now that it's come and I've studied it carefully it does seem genuine. It's been cleaned, but other than the color, fits with the normal examples in terms of the paper, printing type, watermarking etc.

Anyone seen anything similar?

Used to be everything was, " made in Japan"!

Just checked my few bills, don't have a 5, just a 1. Could it be because is a Burmese/India Rupee issue and not the Philippine issued Peso note series? I do have a 1 & 5 peso, but no 10 to compare within the series?

I have just been onto Google Images, searching for
'Japanese invasion money 5 rupees', and failed to find
this same combination of denomination and color.

Back in their day and just after the war these notes were as worthless as paper.

With reflection, I'm half suspicious that this has been chemically altered. But how? It's one thing to turn a greenback yellow... but this? From dark purple to a red that matches that used for the 1 cent and 10 Rupees? It's odd. Considering how these were printed it's possible that it is an error. But it is possible to change ink colors. I'll probably never know! I'll list it as an error/fake curiosity on the asiamoney site.
