Please check these photo's out- Jack from VAM world said he is guessing it was from over-polished dies and is common on morgans.

I do have several coins that have the detatched leaves. Jack is right. When dies get chips, gouges, or clash marks, they polish the dies to try to remove them. Too much polishing will remove the details in the area which will result in things like this.

I call them my "Fall Collection".
