Update! What was thought to be a very extreme and new 41 DDO turns out to be fake. Initially thought to be a new DDO by John Wexler and listed as WDDO-023 in his 1941 DDO listing turns out to be counterfeit. ANACS and Mike Diamond also looked at this coin and had further discussions with John and all agree it was struck by a counterfeit die. Wish it were real but at least it didn't cost me a lot of money. My only expense was in getting the coin looked at by the pros. Thanks to John Wexler, Mike Diamond and ANACS for their expertise and time they put into this.

That's a shame.

Can you share any details as to what red flags the experts saw that lead them to this conclusion? I'm not doubting it or anything, but I'd just like to know out of curiosity.

Same here. I was excited when this first came out, what burst the bubble?

Don't really know what caused the initial concern. I sent it off to ANACS and they returned as N9, stating it was "Overstruck with false die". I copied John Wexler in and he stated ANACS has contacted him and he suggested I have Mike Diamond take a look at it, so I did. Mike also believes it was counterfeit. He stated it was "produced by a counterfeit die of relatively soft consistency".

I agree that I wish the experts who make these calls would let us peons in the hobby know what the problems are.

I hope Mike is planing a write up or something. People nowadays are always concerned about others being taken on fake ebay auctions. I would really like the experts to, when they have the time, take this same concern and let us know why they make the calls they do.
