My Canadian 5 Cent Collection - Checklist Filled So Far

TNG Bedrock of the Community United States 10284 Posts	Posted 03/08/2017 8:54 pm Canadian 5 Cent Collection There are some "Baby Nickels" I would get 1911-2011 and perhaps 1911-2001 if I could find a single out of the set. These are like No. 127. I am also going to put together a few "Type coins" of pre 1922 Canadian 5 cent coins. There are many nicknamed varieties. "Bug Tail" "bald belly" etc. that do not interest me. I think this is a pretty extensive and complete collection of Canadian 5 Cent coins. I plan to grade them at some point. Early dates to 1940 are average VF-XF or better with the 1925 graded at F12 by ICCS. After that, for 1950's many are AU-Unc and most recent are high grade examples. Here's what I have so far. What did I miss? I'll try to at least get a group pic up and some highlights. Hopefully this will help somebody else who wants to know what was minted for these years 1922 to present. Looking at my 54 here, it appears to be "proof-like" but I don't know how I can tell. I didn't worry too much about this as I tried to get one of each mint mark or lack thereof, proof and specimen that I could find. Thanks for that info! I'll look into it. Was it money that kept me from chasing it? I better just stay where I'm at with this. Like DBM says, my list could reach 1000 with die varieties and such. Pretty happy as it sits. Just keeping up with it is tough enough. That 2005 1935-2005 with George on it and the two maple leaves was a strange one to pick up. I think there are only 5000 made. The 2005 Victory Silver Proof encased gold plated 1945-2005 Mint report is another oddball. It is still in a bubble of plastic. I don't know if it can even be removed. The reason I included the 1999P in my collection was that is an actual circulation coin issue (legal tender) with the beaver on it and not a true test token [see Charlton 2014 Vol. 1 pg. 284]. The reason I went with the other three varieties is that they are widely accepted and collected just like the '53 SF and NSF. But you are right. Everyone has to draw the line somewhere. I am not saying my way is better or the only right way - just explaining why I decided to do it this way. Report this Post to the Staff
