Just was wondering what this error or marking would be considered if anything on this 1983 Lincoln Cent. I have no clue, but it is strange looking.

Plating bubble that air or substance got to. Pop it and see what's underneath!

It looks like that one already popped but there seems to be one above Lincoln's head that my give way to the pressure of a toothpick.

Looks like someone poked the coin with a needle and the split plating allowed air to get to the zinc. Then the coin swelled and then fell down again. Probably hollow under that area now.

That looks too uniform to be a plating bubble, may be damaged by some other means.

The shape looks like the end of a nail set.

I'm gonna agree with cwb. It looks incuse and could indeed be from a nail set or punch. But, that still probably means zinc rot, if not now then in the near future!
