The Morgan is well worn, so that weight is probably ok, since a new one weighed 26.73 gms. The eagle should not weigh more than 31.101 gms. By the way, no big deal, but it is easier to follow a thread if you just reply to an existing one, rather than creating a new one.

Sorry on the last thread people were asking about the weight of the coins and I ask if they were fake or not

Also so does this mean the ASE is fake?

I don't see how it can weigh that amount and be legitimate. Perhaps those more expert than I will chime in. I presume you tried a magnet?

You should have put the weights in the other thread to keep the discussion together. The other thread is now locked.

Yes I have tried and the magnet does not stick to the coin, the ping is about as long as the Britannia, just sounds a bit off

I suspected that the silver eagle was fake. The date just didn't look right.

Quote: The eagle should not weigh more than 31.101 gms. The eagle should weigh AT LEAST 31.101 grams. They are typically slightly heavy because the government guarantees the minimum weight. They don't want any bad press for selling underweight ASE's.

The photos are in the other topic, but are not sharply focused enough to make a visual check for detailed signs that it is a counterfeit.
