Hello friends,

I have noticed several people selling rolls of old, pre 1950 coins. Even rolls as far back as the late 1890's. If it is indeed an original roll with a clean face coin on top and bottom, what can one expect if they actually opened the roll?

Has anyone done the percentages before? Also, is it more valuable to keep the roll intact?

Sorry for all the questions, but, what not a better way to learn right? Lol

Thank you all.

to the family!

Where from, eww-boy? It is well known shysters put one "ender" nice tempter on rolls of common date coins. This is a buyer beware. Unless you know the back story 100% truthful, its chancy. I've bought (for a premium, once)rolls marked "old" from online auctions that were said to be "deposit box" rolls, only to find junk inside. Never have tried the ender rolls, that's asking for it.

Used to buy bulk wheat cents(1000 count). I thought I'd finally found a seller with some truly " unsearched" coins after finding out how he acquired them. Supposedly he bought them from his customers at craft shows for his other non related products. Took a chance, 1st batch was a treasure trove, 53% were pre 1940, with 3-1909vdb's even. Jumped big again, got dealer dumps of 94% commons, what a sucker I was!

100%

Nice coins at the end, horrible junk in the middle so that they can afford the stuff on the ends. Never by any ? rolls such as 1916 D? Mercury dime on one end and a D on the other! Or 1909 VDB S? Wheat cent on one end and 1909 S VDB? on the other.

All fake.

By the way crazyb0 was talking about ebay.

@crazyb0 - Don't mean to be rude, but some people may not know what you mean by eww-boy

Well when you consider that probably close to 90% of all wheat cents were struck in the 40's and 50's and the fact that most wheat hoards were probably accumulated in the 50's. 60's. and 70's, you should expect any random unpicked lot of Wheat cent to be 90%+ commons from the 40's and 50's.

Beware of those things. Same with Unsearched. Usually just a scam.

Conder101, agree, most of my bulk purchases were in the 10-17% range of pre 1940's, just that the above mistake was by far the worst. Even my LCS's batch of 500 had 11% pre40's! Now this was over a year ago, market probably isn't any better now, altho, I am selling some on the forum, check them out, selling guaranteed 20%/80% mix!
