Long story short, I got an unopened roll of Presidential dollars from my mother who had hoarded it since 2007 when this series first came out. My understanding is this roll is a sealed from the mint roll and I'm assuming the whole $25 roll is brand new George Washington dollars.

There were some varieties/errors in this first run if you might recall. Most notably, the missing edge letters. The more I think about it, the more I want to pop this roll open and see what I got. There is one tiny inner voice that says maybe I should leave it sealed.

Nope. Pop it open. There is no premium for the roll anymore.

What does the wrapper say on the side? If it was from the mint it will say "U.S. Mint" on it somewhere.

Either way, with coin197, there probably isn't much of a premium for the roll.

I cracked a John Adams roll open recently, all were normal.
Picked out a couple nicer coins and spent the rest.
Good Luck on your roll!

Spend them! The edge lettering is a turnoff for me. Hence the reason I don't collect them.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the edge lettering either. However, it is what it is.

The little devil sitting on my right shoulder shoved the little angel away, so I tore the paper back. First peek... I see a lot of edge lettering.

Rather disappointing results. No missing edge letters. An even rarer variety was with edge lettering stamped twice, but none of that either. I looked at several under the digital microscope and I'm not seeing any near perfect coins either. Phooey!

Yea, but keep in mind, even MS63/64's are still marketable.

Just not for premiums, a buck three eighty maybe?

It was worth a shot to check for the variety. Could have paid off for you. Now you know for certain what you have. I say put them in a tube and stash them away. You never know what purpose you'll have for them someday . .

I have broken up two or three different rolls of Pres dollars.

All were spenders.

I have the same luck when I go to the casino. People all around me are hitting jackpots and I go home with a lighter wallet.

But, one little bit of silver lining to the gray cloud, upon closer examination of all 25 Washington Presidential dollars, I did set back three that were nicer than the rest (i.e. less bag dings, strong strike, good eye appeal, etc.). So, it's not a total loss.

Since this roll had belonged to Mom, I decided to divide it up among the family. So, I counted up her children, grandchildren, and great grand kids. Seems pretty simple, Mom has 12 descendants, so I'm keeping the 3 nicer coins and giving 2 coins each to the rest of the kinfolk. That concludes the adventure of the sealed Washington dollar roll.

I am with everyone else on this,as coin197 mentioned premium on these rolls are gone, recently I finally broke down and started opening up my rolls,2D'S AND 2P's of each president, came up with a few shifted edge lettering ( 4 on Zak. Taylor and 3 on Sacagawea )and a few higher grades for album or may be grading and that was it !sad but true!

Yeah, not a fan. Really messes up P/D and P/D/S album collecting for me.
