Looks like a retained lamination error. The planchet was flawed before striking. Nice find!

Impurities rolled into the copper planchet can cause it to split (de-laminate) when the coin is struck.
Rest in Peace

Screwdriver, the twisting caused a weak area to break. Notice the flat on rim next to break, pressure point of screwhead channel. Why jump to mint errors right away? You all know 95% of this is PMD?

Hence pictures 2 and 5 . I agree Crazyb0 somewhat. I think a "tool" of some kind was used possibly trying to lift or enhance the original crack.

I doubt very much this is the cause of being tooled, copper is a malleable metal, looking at the crack effect this will only be caused by impurities in the copper layering causing surfaces to not be bonded together during the pour and extrusion of the flat stock.

I am with M_d-in_guy on this one, barring anyone being able to duplicate this error.

i say mint error too, if a screw driver hit it then it would have a dent as copper is soft and malleable and not brittle it was cracked due to a screwdriver it would have alot more distortion around the impact area

Nice error. Was it touched later, yes. 100% Mint error. The statement of 95% PMD is wrong in my opinion. The crack would show bright and shiny as the tinker mark does.

I agree with Mike - struck on a flawed planchet...
