The subject of cutting a note out of the holder of one of the lesser grading companies and resubmitting it raw to either PCGS or PMG often arises on the forum. I do so often, but there is risk involved, and the greater the value the more risk there is. Here is one I have been pondering for some time. What do you think I should do?

Would you be happy with a 65 or 66 grade from either PCGS or PMG?

Coinfrog, in my opinion, which is extremely humble, is that if you are thinking at all of selling someday, since the old cga certifications are looked at with some question, break it out and resubmit. If no resale someday, then keep it as is. In either case that is a lovely note and I wish I had one.

Definatly get it graded by PMG.
It seems that PCGS puts apparent on any note they get in.

I think it's no secret that I love the portrait of President Grant, and this Fr.2404 is no exception. Simply gorgeous note.
I believe this note needs to eventually be reholdered by either PMG or PCGS. The difference between grades 65 and 66 is fairly close. The jump to 67 however is really significant. Double and sometimes triple GEM prices.
I don't know what you paid for it....hopefully it was 65,66 money.

Resubmit.
This is a personal opinion, but CGA holder are a no go for me. They tend to be looked down upon in the paper collecting community and most major dealers know they are overgraded. So if you want to sell this note one day I would go with one of the big two. It would look 10x better in a PCGS or PMG holder, even if it got a 65.

If the grade is reasonable my source (2011) says $6000. Like others have said if you're thinking about selling it a change in TPG would be in order.

Like You, I hate to mess with a good thing, however, that is one fine note! I just sent a 1928 $50 FRN KC to PCGS...and its a VF....That note has so much class, it deserves the best.....PCGS or PMG.....IMHO

I agree with the masses here. Get it re-graded. Can't hurt. Clearly CGA is not held in high esteem these days so even if you take a hit on that 67, you have more trusted idea of its grade/worth.

Thanks to all of you for the advice, well taken. It is a stunning note in hand, as bright as can be, and I'll probably go ahead and resubmit as you suggest. Love you guys.
