After I found the head scratcher, I found this one. Not quite as dramatic as the other "dropped number" but still pretty interesting IMO. I guess I am still trying to figure this one out too -so Bill...Wake up !

There are three small dots of metal in the date, one each in the top and bottom loop of the nine , and one more in the top of the 2. The metal has the same color and wear as all the surrounding metal, and there appears to be no splash or spread at the base to indicate solder of some kind. I am not even sure what I would speculate on this one. A bit too uniform for die chips ? or a break ? Thanks for lookin' -Let's have at it !

Hi,

If there aren't little marks on the reverse that line up with these, they will likely be small die chips. It is not unusual for die chips to have a shape that we can name, like a circle or a dot. This kind of chip, for example happens a lot in the center opening of the zeros on 1960 D small date cents.

How'd you know I was sleepin' ? :-)

Thanks,
Bill

Wow, that was fast ! Didn't mean to wake you... I don't see any corresponding marks on the reverse , so I can go along with die chips

I just thought it might be something else at first because I had never seen any like this and didn't think they would be this uniform. One , ok, two, maybe, but three ? I had to wonder. I guess given the enclosed areas it is entirely possible. I will have to look more closely at those Linclons and try to find this there too ! Thanks for the explanation, now get back to bed
