There's lots of early Lincolns out there that have weaker strikes that look like wear. Report this Post to the Staff

Actually, this is an EDS coin, there is a great amount of detail but it's hidden in the toning. The beard detail is particularly impressive, but a little weak at the highest points. The obverse die just didn't fully fill....but it's EDS. One of those branch mint things where they didn't have the pressure quite dialed in. On the reverse notice the O in ONE and the PLURIBUS. Those are opposite the shoulder - so the reverse die didn't fill either. It's easy to mistake these areas as "wear". A clue to it being mint state is in the oft ignored rims. I'm pretty bad at taking photos, so I'm constantly trying to use different backgrounds and lighting to see what works best. I've tried everything from a blank white envelope to a black photography cloth to a wooden desk. These were the seller pics. I couldn't see enough detail on the obverse, I used the reverse wheat stalks to determine that it was mint state. Report this Post to the Staff
