Few days ago I accidentally bought a coin which brings me almost to the end of full XX century OFEC colection Nagorno-Karabakh - 25 000 drams 1998, Ag So now I need only 2 x more countries ;) - I have 311 / 313 existing in XX century I bought it from http://gndm.pl/ so I hope, really really hope, this coin is not a fake from China (there are few on ebay) The last two is Zanzibar (cents from 1908) and Tajikistan 20 roubles 1999 - I wrote about it here: http://goccf.com/t/238891

I wanted to mention the Kyrgyzstan 20 tyjyn 1994 patterns, but apparently there's a legitimate 20th century Kyrgyzstan coin (another obscure silver issue), and you have one of those already.
Anyway - incredible quest! It sounds like something I'd want to do myself if/when I ever end up having that kind of money... right now I only have 264 countries in my Numista collection, and many of them are not from the 20th century.

I am on a different sort of OFEC project, but with more modest and easier to achieve goal: OFEC: One From Every Century, from the invention of coinage.
26 coins in all, each representative to the century in which it was minted. The collection may develop and expand, to include as many as 100 coins, because I may think about including One from Every Culture, over the 26 century period.
A very basic statement of the development of coinage of the World, over the last 26 centuries.

26 coins in all, each representative to the century in which it was minted. I'm actually working on that one as well (thank you for inspiration!), but I'm having trouble finding any coins before the 3rd century BC that I could afford. (Maybe I'm just not looking in the right places?) Having recently bought a 8th century AD coin from Bukhar Khudat (pending more precise identification, but I'm fairly confident of the century), I now also finally have more than half of the Middle Ages period (still missing 7th, 10th, 11th and 14th centuries... and the best I have for 13th is this squashed nail).

@sel_691, I would be very interested to see your list of different Culture, and of course how you decide what is a distinct culture, as opposed to a distinct Country.
In the OFEC group I used to belong to, everytime a country changed its government, that was a new line for the checklist. So, for example, Germany starting in 1900 would have:
Empire Weimar Republic Third Reich Allied Occupation East Germany West Germany Unified Germany European Union
Or something like this.
Plus all the states that issued their own coinage.

@ Oriole: Cultures in the broadest sense.
Ancient Greek, Roman, Celtic, Byzantine, Indian, Chinese, Parthian, Sassanian, Islamic, South East Asian, medieval Western European, modern milled European, and machine struck World coinages.
Some collectors are specialists. Perhaps my collecting approach could be termed 'generalist'.

@sel_691, an interesting way to do it, just dipping your toes in. Not a bad way to do it, especially in the ancients, which I have sort of been trying to do, but maybe just a bit less general.

Wow, that's really generalist. I'd say that most people on CCF would hardly ever stray out of the "machine struck world coinage" category (with perhaps the occasional slip into "modern milled European").
I recently got myself a Yemenite pentagonal (1/8 riyal) - those must have been perhaps the last circulating coins that didn't fit in this category. Of course, even if they weren't, they're quite unique anyway. (My example is from 1949, and the type was made until 1961, but if I didn't know I would never have guessed it was 20th century.)

Fascinating coin from a region I had never heard of before!
Just out of curiosity, what is your "cutoff" between a country to collect versus what you consider a fantasy or otherwise not worthy of collecting? I think we had a discussion on it before, and there are some interesting perspectives on what does and doesn't qualify.

Your coin is a fantasy issue, as Nagorno-Karabakh has never issued circulation coinage. It still has it's place in your OFEC if you are using numista as your guide.
See list below, with full credit going to CCF member SAP for preparing it and sharing it on a previous OFEC thread.
COIN-ISSUING COUNTRIES: 208 Afghanistan Albania Algeria Andorra 1 Angola Argentina Armenia Aruba Australia Austria Azerbaijan Bahamas, The Bahrain Bangladesh Barbados Belgium Belize Bermuda Bhutan Bolivia Bosnia and Herzegovina Botswana Brazil British Virgin Islands Brunei Bulgaria Burma Burundi Cambodia Cameroon 2 Canada Cape Verde Cayman Islands Central African Republic 2 Chad 2 Chile China Cocos(Keeling) Islands 1 Colombia Comoros Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Republic of the 2 Cook Islands Costa Rica Croatia Cuba Cyprus Czech Republic Denmark Djibouti Dominican Republic East Timor Ecuador Egypt El Salvador Equatorial Guinea 2 Eritrea Estonia Ethiopia Falkland Islands Faroe Islands 2 Fiji Finland France French Polynesia Gabon 2 Gambia, The Georgia Germany Ghana Gibraltar Great Britain Greece Greenland 2 Guadelupe 2 Guatemala Guernsey Guinea Guinea-Bissau Guyana Haiti Honduras Hong Kong Hungary Iceland India Indonesia Iran Iraq Ireland Isle of Man Israel Italy Jamaica Japan Jersey Jordan Kazakhstan Kenya Kiribati Korea, North Korea, South Kuwait Kyrgyzstan Laos Latvia Lebanon Lesotho Liberia Libya Liechtenstein Lithuania Luxembourg Macau Macedonia Madagascar Malawi Malaysia Maldives Mali Malta Marshall Islands 1 Martinique 2 Mauritania Mauritius Mexico Moldova Monaco Mongolia Montenegro 2 Morocco Mozambique Namibia Nepal Netherlands Netherlands Antilles 3 New Caledonia New Zealand Nicaragua Nigeria Norway Oman Pakistan Panama Papua New Guinea Paraguay Peru Philippines Poland Portugal Qatar Reunion 2 Romania Russia Rwanda Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (Western Sahara) 1,5 Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha Saint Pierre and Miquelon 2 Samoa SanMarino São Tome and Príncipe Saudi Arabia Serbia Seychelles Sierra Leone Singapore Slovakia Slovenia Solomon Islands Somalia Somaliland 5 South Africa Spain Spitzbergen/Svalbard SriLanka Sudan Suriname Swaziland Sweden Switzerland Syria Taiwan 5 Tajikistan Tanzania Thailand Togo Tokelau 1 Tonga Transnistria 5 Trinidad and Tobago Tunisia Turkey Turkmenistan Turks and Caicos Islands 2 Tuvalu Uganda Ukraine United Arab Emirates United States Uruguay Uzbekistan Vanuatu Vatican City Venezuela Vietnam Yemen Zambia Zimbabwe

Coinage of the Netherlands Antilles still circulates in two of the former member-states and will continue to do so until those states (Curacao and Sint Maarten) issue a replacement currency union currency, sometime later this year (2013). 4 - Country has never issued any official legal tender coinage. Any and all "coins" issued in their name are unofficial fantasies. 5 - Although an "unrecognized" country, coinage in their name actually circulates (or circulated) on the ground.

There's a lot missing though, even if we are only counting coin-issuing (mostly) autonomous entities of the 20th century. For example: Khorezm Soviet People's Republic that existed for a while before being absorbed into the USSR: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kho...iet_RepublicHyderabad, one of the many self-governing Indian Princely States that existed right up until unification in 1947: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyderabad_StateThe list goes on, of course but you get the picture. Things aren't exactly black and white in an OFEC set.

This list is a little bit out of date. South Sudan's circulation coins came out last year.
Also, I'm pretty sure that at least some of the issues of Abkhazia and Nagorno-Karabakh are official (as far as they can be for such unrecognized states), and there are apparently some reports that a few of the Nagorno-Karabakh coins might even have actually briefly circulated on their territory.
OTOH, South Ossetia, (modern) Palestine, Kosovo and Northern Cyprus really didn't issue any official legal tender.
