It's time for something different!! This is the "117 Days of your BEST US Coin 1909-1793 + 13 days of Colonials and Post-Colonials!!"! How does this work? Starting on the 28th of March, we all post our BEST coin of the year scheduled for that day counting down from 1909 all the way to 1793! Yikes, for some dates this might be like that movie Sophie's Choice. Like choosing one of your children over another.

I'm really looking forward to some of those days. For example, July 11 (1804)!

Does someone in the forums own an 1804 dollar?

I like it because people also have the opportunity to tell a story, not just post a dozen pictures. For instance, you might someone posting a beat-up, holed, ex-jewelry 1873 gold $1 when you know they have a MS63 PCGS/CAC 1873-CC Trade dollar and wonder why, but then find out that maybe that little piece of gold was inherited from family, or a metal detector find, or the first gold coin they ever owned, a gift from a loved one, a chance find in a dealer's world coin junk bin, etc. Maybe it's something unusual, such as a pattern, a test strike, or a scarce die variety, and you can share your knowledge as to what makes it different. A single coin per year limit also gives CCF members more time to actually read, and look at, the coins being posted. It's hard to tell stories about coins when you have, say, "Post Your 1878-dated coins" and you realize you have like 40 coins with that date, and it would spam the forums with 80 photos just from your one post. (I don't have anything against 1878's, quite obviously, but using that as an example date.) This thread also lets you fit in things like Hard Times tokens, Civil War tokens, pre- and post-colonial issues, territorial/California gold, patterns, etc. if that's what you want to highlight for a given year, another benefit over trying to make a thread like "The X Days of California Fractional Gold" and realizing you will probably have 3 or 4 members with 100 examples and a few dozen more that might own a single example, wherein individual coins posted get lost in all of the "noise." Yes, it's hard to choose, but maybe not as much as you might think; I bet if you have 20 slabbed coins for a given date, you can probably look at them and find one that has a story, or the one out of those 20 you're always showing off when a fellow hobbyist asks you "hey, do you have a so-and-so for whatever date?"

@moe, I know from the title of this cool thread that you are anticipating us to post pics of our colonials. Any thoughts about extending the timeframe for the last week of July being designated specifically for pre-1793 coins?

Quote: Does someone in the forums own an 1804 dollar? I actually have an 1804 dollar. Unfortunately, it's from the UK (1804 Bank of England dollar). Interestingly, it could actually have been made in 1804. Some references suggest that some of these may have been made as late as 1810 or 1811.

It might be interesting for someone knowledgeable in US "colonial" coins to organize a specialty thread just for them. If it was organized by date, it might have to start with one day for all the 1600s, then progress by 25-year or 10-year days up until the 1780s, where it could then go year by year up to 1792. In the current thread, just post your best one. In my case, that's pretty easy -- I have only one decent US colonial.

In the current thread, just post your best one. I agree whole-heartedly with Pepactonius!! Unfortunately, I am not that familiar with our nation's colonial issues. I would LOVE to see them all and would gladly step aside as the "Days of..." Generalissi-Moe to allow our next thread to be a US Colonials one for someone else to host. Any takers?

The colonials thread could be totally independent, since there would be minimal conflict with the current thread. It could start at any time, subject to moderator approval, of course.
