I bought some OBW rolls of uncirculated cents on ebay (1959, 1961, 1964, 1968) and got them in today and when I was at the store I bought two rolls there. One turned out to be an uncirculated roll of 2017s. Here are some errors I found while going through them.

1959 die chip

I like Them Especially Greasers - I have seen quite a few of the 2017's with the same Grease Filled Die area.

I was shocked to see a P mm on the Cent, I had no idea about that happening. So strange seeing that P there.

If you turn the 2017 cent over, you will see that is where the bottom of Lincoln's profile is. This is a deeper part of the die, which means there is less pressure on the opposite side during striking. This lack of detail is usually due to the weakened pressure during the strike, not a dirty die.

Nice finds!

I was wondering if it was considered a Greaser or not as well on the 2017's, however, I have just starting seeing these start on the late 2016's and now a ton of them on the 2017's. And I can see light surface scratches over that area of the coin.

I would think if it was weakened pressure then we would have been seeing this long before now. I know many of you search a lot more than I so maybe that is why I am just seeing them in the last 3 months or so?

I don't have any pictures hand at the moment, but this was also common on the wheat reverse and Memorial reverse cents.

I know what you are referring to on the other Cents, so is this caused then by the dies getting worn down and not able to give strong enough strike? The 2016's with this issue is understandable but the 2017's are just coming out.

I know most of you search through a lot more coins than I do.

Thanks

No, it's not caused from worn dies.
It happens because the coin is thicker in that area and doesn't receive as much pressure during the strike.

It is an area of the coin's design that doesn't get compressed as much on the reverse side, because of the raised design in that area on the obverse side.

The whole area where Lincoln's profile is, gets less pressure opposite that area. When a coin is struck, the metal flows outward towards the rims. The closer to the rim we look, the more weakness of the strike we see.
