So I was looking through the 1999s, and using it as a tool to help with the 1992 D Close AM. So I think I found one. Let me know what you experts think.

Not this time. FG is close to the Memorial, the "G" has serifs. Close to equal spacing for the "M" also.

Take a look at this page, it may help you out with this: http://www.lincolncentsonline.com/closeWide.html

You will eventually learn to pick out the differences at a glance!

You'll get it eventually. Searching through cents in-hand is much easier than trying to pick out an unattributed one on ebay!

cwb's link should prove very helpful. There are several things to looks for to differentiate the two.

If you have a loupe, examining the initials more closely is the most definitive because it involves more than just spacing (serif vs. sans serif).

This image was made by Thulium for proof differences but the markers still apply for Close AM vs. Wide AM on business strikes (keeping in mind what you're looking for in each year):

I agree with everything the above gentlemen have stated. And I can sympathize with the OP. Sometimes you look through so many pennies, your eyes play tricks on you!

Lelah, 1992 CAM is a tricky one. I think there are only a handful of examples, and they're worth big bucks. Once you learn to tell the difference between CAM and WAM, try focusing on 1998, 1999, and 2000 cents minted in Philadelphia. You'll want the Wide AM variety on those. I don't think any of them are common, but they're less rare than the 1992/1992D CAM. 1999 is the rarest, then 1998 or 2000. Those last two are less uncommon than the 1999, and they're worth maybe a tenth of the 1999 WAM.
