I got this one for cheap in order to fill my Dansco. Planned on cracking it out of the holder. Should I dip it in acetone to remove the discoloration? I know acetone wont cause any harm, but what exactly is the yellowing anyways? Appreciate the help *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

I dont think Acetone will help remove the spots. They are due to toning.

Like previously said, acetone probably won't do anything on toning but it certainly isn't a valuable coin to go ahead and try it. Somebody sure lost money on getting that slabbed at 66.

I wouldn't crack it. Acetone will not do anything.

I concur with the others...acetone won't help. The yellow is toning.

I don't think I've ever seen an ASE graded 66. Must have quite a few marks to get down there.

Definitely don't crack it! It is already in the holder, so leave it. Find another one raw, (probably cheaper and nicer condition).

Crack it out and put in your set! I would argue that a slabbed 66 HURTS the value. That's a really low grade for one of these. This confirms it's not a high quality coin. Odds are a raw one would grade 66 or higher.

This coin does not need to be in a slab. Crack it and fill that spot in your Dansco.

First, wrong forum. Second, only worth what a raw 1994 ASE would be.

My fault about forum placement..
I figured it was a cheap coin so cracking wouldn't do any harm, but there seems to be mixed opinions about cracking it.

I agree with the group to just crack it.
With a grade of MS 66 the slab gives it no extra value.
I feel the grade would have to be MS 69 or MS 70 to make it worth leaving in the slab.
I would crack it .. dip it to remove the spots ... and put into album.

Thanks for the opinions. What would you dip the coin in? Acetone? Or a silver cleaner? I know acetone wouldnt cause harm but not sure about dipping
