I believe this piece comes from Yunnan Province, just based on comparison photos. Could anyone date it for me? It would be much appreciated. Thanks

Further research revealed they were only minted from 1920 to 1931. I don't read Chinese, but I do recognize the numeral 3 at the bottom of the reverse. Possibly 1923?
Rest in Peace

Not nessessarily. Now, I am not saying it is not fake—I am not experienced enough with these to make that call—but some have no words around the dragon.

There are four varieties of pearls with this coin, and yours, have four circles below the pearl, would fit into that date range.

I believe that there is no date on this kind of coin, as well as no way to narrow it down anymore than 1920 to 1931 (see here for another example). I may be wrong though, so hopefully someone will correct me if that is the case.

Thanks Joe for that Vcoin link. Apparently these coins weren't dated each year. They also confirm mintage as Yunnan Province, 1920-1931.
Fake Chinese coins are legion, so that's always a possibility. But I did a magnet slide to verify silver characteristics.

I believe it's genuine. This is actually a very common coin struck in Yunnan Province around 1911. This was later restruck in later years.

Not too sure how people are claiming this is a counterfeit - will be most interested to know how it was determined to be the case.

I believe this coin is authentic, cataloged for me as 50 Cents (3 Mace 6 Candareens), Y # 257.2 (4 circles below pearl), 1920-1931.

The earlier coinage was minted in 0.800 silver, but later restrikes such as this were in silver 0.500. For this reason many people consider it as forgeries when in fact they should be considered as restrikes.
