I don't think so because usually grease error creates a fade/ low relief design on the whole coin or most of it but this one only has the 1 with the "fade"

I would say Grease Filled Die on this one. I just found a similar cent (1998) that only has the last digit of the date obscured as well. Some of IN GOD WE TRUST is missing from mine, but yours doesn't seem to be lacking any other obverse detail. How does the reverse look?

I still think it's a Grease Filled Die error, but a minor one. Maybe someone else will chime in.

I think as long as the device can be seen it's not rare or note worthy,But I could be wrong.

I think it's a weak strike. The rim is a mess and the back of Lincoln's head looks wrong.

It is a partial Grease Fill on the die. (minor) Even the slightest amount of grease will prevent the coin from forming on that area.

Interesting to note are the die scratch patterns, indicative of a polished die, that actually run over the faded 1. Grease filled most likely w/ polishing compound.
