Hi All, This coin was created by Inco for a trade show in Japan in 1991. That's all I've been able to collect in regards to information of this piece. It was given to me as a gift as I worked for Inco. The coin is a foot and a half in diameter, about 4 inch thick and over 40 lbs in weight. It is not made of nickel, just some form of steel \ metal composite. The other side of the coin does not have the head. It's blank, with a hole that was used to mount the piece. It's priceless to me, but have always wondered if it may have a dollar value to it. Any guesses or opinions would be appreciated. Thanks. Edited by joey76 03/26/2017 10:02 pm

As a novelty, pretty neat, value...? You always got 40lbs of scrap metal, worth a few buck!

to CCF. Send it in to PCGS and have it slabbed I am sure it has a collector value of some sort. Contact the Canadian mint, maybe they will buy it from you. I really like it. John1

That is one very nice piece you have there! Quote: It's priceless to me, but have always wondered if it may have a dollar value to it. Any guesses or opinions would be appreciated. Thanks. The only way to find out for sure is by trying to sell it which obviously you will not. I would part with at least $500 if it was at an auction of some sort. If there was crazy bidding then I might let myself go higher. There are a few guys here that gather for a beer or two after the Coin Expo and enjoy a little show and tell. I would love to see the looks on their faces if you showed up and dropped this piece on the table. Just don't knock over any of the mugs!

A fun item! I liked the suggestion above to get it slabbed by a TPG.

I know a collector in Windsor that is fanatic about Canadian 5 cent pieces who would love to just get a look at your trophy.
Don't be in too much of a hurry to sell it until you find out more information. Piece is likely unique and would look great on a wall if you could find something strong enough to hold it.

Wow guys, great input. Appreciate it. Having worked for Inco, I am a huge fan of the Nickel as well. I purchased the legacy to the nickel set, and have been picking up all the big coin series 5 cent coins as well. One day my plan is to create a display with all these pieces. This coin is gorgeous. The pics I've provided don't do it justice because you don't get to see how thick it really is.

Just had a thought, don't do it without research first. Should you put some carnuba wax on it after a cleaner/wax product? Both sides. John1

It certainly has value. I would certainly be tempted to bid on it at a live auction, but I don't think id be going as high as Daryldaryl. I'd probably be more interested in making a trade for it If given the option. I'm not sure how much I would buy it for but if it was mine, I wouldn't let it go for a nickle less than $250. I wonder what it is made of. 18" diameter 4" thick seems very light for steel.

I think that it is awesome... easily worth $500 to the right 5-cent collector!!

I contacted some private mints in the GTA regarding making a 2.012 kilo copper penny in 2012, exact design as our penny was told it's not legal to produce due to various factors, but this sure is cool though.

Very cool. I'd much rather have this 'big coin' than any of the recent Bromberg inspired big coins. And they sold for over $500...

Like anything it's worth what someone is willing to pay and as indicated here some are willing to pay at least $500. I would also gladly pay $500 for this unique item.

I would think this coin would demand $500.00 or more it would look great on any office, office lobby, coin store, or a private home bar wall. Great post thank you for sharing pictures of your treasure with us

I wonder if that's why the obverse ofLoey's giant 5 cent medallion is blank? Does that somehow skirt the legalities. Very cool piece Joey. Maybe Vale would be interested in buying it back. Would look pretty impressive in their head office in TO. Or you could see if the museum in Sudbury wants to buy it.
