It looks like a proof coin to me, but I could not find this in my new Krause catalogue either
Doing some research, I think this remembers a Korea-Japanese conflict in 1894.

I love the coin. That coin is just the type I go for. I haven't gotten any North Korean coins yet but they are on my list. There are a number depicting their famous leaders. One day. Nice nice find.

It's most likely brass - funny how there is German inscription on it.

I've noticed several errors and omissions in the Krause catalogue for North Korea. Ever since the DPRK discovered that collector coins can be an excellent source for hard cash, they've been churning them out faster than the catalogues can keep up with them. And, of course, there are rarely any official announcements from the DPRK government about coin releases. So the only ones that get included in Krause are the ones that collectors draw to the editor's attention.

It's also possible that some of these unrecorded "varieties" seen on ebay are actually Chinese-made fakes.

Ain't no German on this coin, the reverse is all in English or Anglicized Korean.

"Juche 91 (2002)" is the date in the Juche Calendar, a calendar invented in 1997 by and for the DPRK; Juche Year 1 is 1912, the year founding dictator Kim Il-Sung was born.
