This one came in the same lot as the barbarous Gallienus, but I figured I shouldn't mix two completely separate fields of interest in one topic.

I don't really collect these, but I feel like most of my bidding competiton was for this one coin.

Claudius II
AE Antoninianus
FORTVNA REDVX, Fortuna standing, holding rudder and cornucopia
Double struck, second strike about 3mm lower and 45 degrees rotated from first strike.

Both obverse and reverse are double struck by the same amount, which I assume means that the coin stuck to the obverse die, fell off, and was struck again? Thoughts welcome!

Neat little coin Finn
I have quite a few with various degrees of doubling/ flan shift/ die rotations in my collections, here are a couple I had to hand although I do have some far better ones tucked away.

Coin - 1, Maximianus, not sure if it is a die shift or broken die that has caused this.

Coin - 2, Constantine I, odd 1 this as I cant decide what to call it, the flan appears to have spun 180 degrees between strikes

This Claudius II error is intriguing as the offset seems to be about the same on each side, but there's quite a bit more rotation between the two strikes on the obverse. I can't account for why that should be so.

So far as I can surmise, the following Quintillus from the same era resides in a museum collection in Vienna. In this instance, the doubling appears to be confined to the obverse.

I like these ancient error coins, There are a lot less of them than one would think given how they were struck.
