Hello everyone,
As a kid, I started collecting US silver dollars in late 70's. I continued with all types of
US coins until about the age of 24. Since then, I was out from collecting, living a busy life, only to come back after 20 years.
I now have means to buy coins that I always wanted, and have been purchasing quite a bit of classic coins.
Here are some observation after being out for two decades.
1. There are so many new variety of coins to collect, although not my forte.
2. There are so many fake & counterfeit coins.
3. Thank are so much great info in internet, such as this forum to combat counterfeits.
4. There are good deals on
ebay, but also many deceitful sellers.
I have been buying most slabbed coins, but one seller peaked my interest in
ebay about 6 months ago. The seller who sold dozens of rolls of pennies & dimes in "OLD COIN WRAPPER" The end coins always were better than the ones inside the roll. (example: roll of wheat cents with end pieces of
Mercury dimes) He had a rating of 1800+ with 98~99% positive rating. And he stated that it was his father's coins that he
inherited.
So I purchased 5 rolls of various types. When I received them, the "OLD COIN WRAPPER" was from fairly recently manufactured floor protector paper roll (Which we used to protect floor from paint)
All end coins were junk, and inside coins of the rolls were less than average common coins.
I can't figure out how he had 1800+ / 98-99% positive rating.
Something to watch out for. But overall, I am very happy to be back in collecting!!
Cheers~~
