I doubt @7111421Jay will be responding at this point. You most likely also have a plated coin. Of course, pics and the weight would help to clarify.

HSN were welling the 50 States quarters with gold plating and platinum. Probably one of those. They sold them to the rubes. After the found out later they were face value because of the alteration, they spent them. If you scratch on the reed edge of the coin, you will see the copper under the plating:
