Hi all, I'm still new to the forum and would like to know as much as possibe! So I was wondering if this is a true mint error or have they just been buried/suffered environmental damage?

Both were victims of being exposed to some type of acid. Put a cent in a glass of coke cola and that will happen. Unfortunately worth face value.

to CCF! It looks like those were exposed to a chemical. No extra value. IMHO though. Also, for future reference, it is very helpful if you post the front (Obverse) and back (reverse) of your coin to help us determine what is going on with your coin. Happy hunting!

Severely damaged - most likely a Dryer Coin.

They are definitely damaged. I am also leaning toward Dryer Coin because of the way the rim metal is folding over onto the field. That would not be a symptom of an acid bath.

So how can you tell the difference:
If they were soaked in acid, then they would be lighter than a normal.
If they were damaged in a Dryer, then the weight would be normal.
Either way, they are spendable and worth one cent each because the are now circulation coins.
