Just sharing an interesting find. I'm not sure who Bill is but I think he may have had a lot of extra time on his hands! Wonder why and how he did this?

The how is a standard vibrating etching tool used to etch into metals, plastics (good luck on glass...!). Used to put names and SocSec#'s on valuables like VCR'S, TV'S, jewelry, even kitchen utensils! (Wife's grandmother did this, was afraid of the "hoodlums" stealing her things...?)

But yea, as the old rocker song said, "tooooo-ooo much, time on my haaa-ands...."

BILL looks raised above the surface. If engraved, it would be "into" the surface and not raised above the surface, right.

Interesting point John1. "Bill" is indeed raised. Almost looks like it was piped on like icing on a cake.

So, how do you add copper-looking material to a coin in such a fashion? Is there such thing as a mini arc welder that uses a consumable copper electrode?

An engraver on copper will push up material as it engraves. The material has to go somewhere.

Thanks for all the input, everyone. Well, however "Bill" made it or for what purpose he had in mind, it ends up in a 2x2 in my Odd and Unusual Album. Thanks again.
