Florian June-September 276 AE Antoninianus, Cyzicus mint IMP FLORIANVS AVG CONCORDIA MILITVM, S in ex. RIC Cyzicus 116 Marcus Annius Florianus was said to have been the maternal half-brother of emperor Tacitus, and was serving as his praetorian prefect when Tacitus died of a fever in June 276. The army proclaimed him emperor, and he continued the campaign against the Heruli. Not long after, the armies in the East declared Probus emperor. Florian took his troops east to face the usurper, and was reportedly defeated at Cilicia by Probus' smaller, more experienced army. Florian was assasinated by his own troops near Tarsus in early September 276. He ruled for only 88 days. Once I'm back on my feet financially, I will only need Aemilian to complete my run of all emperors from Gordian III to the Tetrarchy. Report this Post to the Staff
