Why is it selling for $180? Because some people do not understand what a real variety or error is compared to worthless Machine Doubling or other common occurrences. While it is tempting to put this sort of coin up for sale and hope some sucker will pay big bucks for it, I feel as an experienced collector, that it is at the least unethical, especially if you try to pass it off as a true doubled die or other valuable variety. Some sellers truly don't know what they have, and some buyers don't know what they are buying. I have seen common machine doubled coins correctly described on ebay sell for way more than they are worth, mostly because the uninformed buyer doesn't have a clue what any of the terminology means, and are to lazy to learn from sites like this one.
Rest in Peace

Amber:

We call this "ghosting effect" worn dies...it is that plus the fact that the plating on the early zincs had a lot of problems in their making, a lot of bubbling under the thin plating, adhesion of the copper layer to the zinc and a strong reaction to the heat caused by the high speed machining. Once they changed to single strike machining in the 90's a lot of these problems diminished.

As to ebay, ahhhh, headslap! VERY few of those posting coins with this type of error are ignorant of the error. Most all KNOW what they are pawning off, I consider these to be just as bad as a professional counterfeiter hawking the fake coins. It is all to get the uneducated buyer suckered in, and sadly, there are many that do. Even those of us who attempt to identify the fakes prior to purchase shudder at times, wondering if we got taken. It is a risk purchasing this way, too bad there are so many schmucks...eBay is in the market to make money, the more that's sold, the more their take, they seem unconcerned as to what is actually being sold.

If there had the doubled ear, they would be worth checking out.

Can you spot the doubled die?
But the coin posted bu the OP is just suffering from Die Deterioration. Stay clear of these as being doubled dies. There are just die wear.
