It's a 1998 S Proof, and I think it's a Wide AM. Should I have this graded. I found this coin roll hunting.

If I remember correctly, all proofs are supposed to be Wide AM's. It's a neat find from CRH, but I think sending for grading would be probably not necessary.

I just read up on that. Yea. But hey it's a cool find. Surprised it's in there though.

That is the expected reverse design for this year/mm in proof state ... you can find thousands of examples in dealers 'bargain bins' for under $1.
Nice CRH find indeed ... save your money on the grading.

nice find coin roll hunting... I hardly ever find a proof my opinion, it's not worth sending in for grading unless you can get a 70 grade check out prices on 1998 Lincoln proofs on ebay, it will sorta give you a idea if it worth it to you. like I see some nice 98 proofs for around 2 bucks.... so I hope this shows you what your coin is worth snowman

Nice catch! I still haven't found any proofs in rolls. As has been stated, it's a normal proof. A Close AM 1998-s proof would be a tremendous find.

Yea a proof found in circulation is still a proof but with the dings and scratches would bring any grade down possibly below the 60 mark I would venture that's a PR-55 at best by your pix, very unnecessary to send in, buy a new PR67 for $3 if you want, save yourself $20 fees and mailing. I have found four separate years of proofs CRHing, all in terrible shape unfortunately. People(dealers/collectors) toss in the "impaired" proofs they crack out of sets into circulation or just relatives of Grandpa's passed down collection "cash it in"...
Gives us CRHers a thrill...

Quote: I would venture that's a PR-55 at best Do they assign actual grades to circulated proofs? I thought if they were sent in for grading and it was lower than PF60 then they would just call it an impaired proof and not assign a grade.

Quote: Do they assign actual grades to circulated proofs? Yup. In terms of wear, they would be graded the same as a non-proof coin, only the prefix in circulated grades would always be PR. As for the coin in question, it is quite hard tell what the grade is from those pictures. Nice find though!

Nice find! I've only found a few over years of searching. It's not worth much being impaired, may like 10 cents....but still a great find!

excellent find..if I were you i'd use it as a pocket piece..believe it or not it may have more collector value worn down to PF-20 than at it's current state.
Feel free to call me Will.
