Have opportunity to bid on this almost complete folder of Buffs. What would be a fair market bid on these? Haven't spent enough time on the series to really know what's what yet. Most appear no better than F-12. This ain't best pix but not willing to give out source with other pix, sorry. *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

I don't think anyone can give you a fair guess at the value or suggest a good bid. That's like car shopping a car dealers lot from across the street. I do see almost all the more expensive ones are missing. I will say, here from across the street, they look better than average. I'd suggest not counting any that don't have a full date, and don't forget, there's two sides to every coin.

Thanks NG, kinda what I was thinking as well, I have a few buffs now but figured if this set had the other basics...its at $25, just wondering if $45-50 is a ballpark for the coins shown (yea, two sides and can't tell the joke for wrong hole here!)

You're taking a gamble my show me state friend. I hope it pays off for you. I shy away from these type of deals.

Thanks guys, have until the weekend before I pull the trigger. I have bought from this outfit before and had better than average luck, nothing burned yet. I may say $45, see how bids go...I'm getting pretty good at spotting the shills if they're there.

I think there are some that are better than F-12, especially in the '30s (as expected).
It's difficult to tell in the pic, they could be much better. I'm a bit of a gambler so I'd pay $50 for that.

Buying from that picture is like throwing a marble on a spinning roulette wheel. No matter how wise an observer might be, they can't tell you a darn thing.

I'd stay away from that deal. For all you know the reverses are all messed up from being in that Folder for a long time.

Anyone who wants to know, this set sold for $76.00 and a 20% buyers fee, over $90 for it, and it wernt me! Right next to this one was a COMPLETE V nickel, yep, 86, 87, 12S, too, went for $335, all very readable dates, quite interesting, never seen a whole set go before...

Thanks for the update Crazyb0. Seems high to me but someone thought it was worth it.

One or two decent Buffs in a partial set can make for a sweet deal. Prices jump in fine condition and start to soar in higher grades. A G/AG set of Liberty nickels can be assembled for under $400, given time. Last year, I happened upon a few, cheap keys and did that. Sold it afterwards, at the first show I attended. Like the Buffs, these sets remain popular.

I put together a VF set of Buffalos and it cost a whole lot more than $90. There are at least half a dozen coins that will cost you in VF-EF condition but these are the coins you want IMO. If you have time to wait and can be patient you would be wise to buy higher grade coins and probably make a profit when you sell them down the line.
