Bohemond-III:-Crusades-Era-Coinage
CRUSADERS Principality of Antioch Bohemund III 1149-1163
AR Denier 17mm. 0.90g. Helmet Denier, Class E
Helmeted head left (with cross) in mail coat; crescent before, star after.
+BOANVHDVS
Cross pattee; crescent in 2nd quadrant.
+ANTI:.OCHIA
Metcalf LE 400; CCS 67b
Notes: Lightly toned. Faint porosity.

I've always loved Crusader coins for their history and their beauty. Perhaps none more iconic than this one, which to this date remains my sole Crusader coin...although I have plans for more (If only I could stop my Gordian III addiction, I'd have a few more crusader coins.)

Anyway, show off your crusader coinage.

Super coin, I too love Crusader coinage but sadly have only one or two. They tend to be expensive. This is well struck with a lot of detail.

@Sallent, this is a great coin. Much better than my Antioch denier.

Anyway, I've been thinking that it might be fun to start a thread dedicated to Crusader coins, roughly based on Malloy, Preston, and Seltman's catalog, "Coins of the Crusader States". I would follow the general outline of the book's chapters, with opportunities for CCF folk to post their coins of different areas during different weeks. I think that this thread structure can help educate others about the wide variety of geographies represented by this series and have had pretty good luck with this format previously:

Therefore, I'd like to propose a friendly amendment to your request for us to add our Crusader coins to the bottom of this thread.

If you are cool with waiting a few days, I'll set up a separate thread and make this happen.

Here is a crusader coin of Tancred of Antioch, 1104-1112:

Bohemond-III:-Crusades-Era-Coinage

20-19 mm, Bearded facing bust of Tancred holding raised sword
IC XC NI KA in cross (much like the Byzantine anonymous bronze type, Class C, attributed to Michael IV, 1034-1041.
