Very interesting Snooba - thanks for showing. I'm really hoping it's not a hammer job when I first saw it.

Looks like one of those strikethrough errors. I posted a 5c one in the error forum.

Very hard top tell from that picture but looks like it could be post-strike... Some sort of corrosivemay have been applied to part of the face... I only suggest this as the 'AUSTRA' looks pretty crisp and rim seems to be intact.

No way zaggy. This is exactly what you expect from a coin struck through oil. A few 2006 $1 have surfaced like this. I found one of them little more than 100 km from where this coin was skilfully found.

With the rims still high, it looks like it was done at the time of minting. Same as my 5c strikethrough.

Yep. I've got $1 with similar features, strikethrough area not so widespread though. Nice one Snooba.

It's definitely struck through grease/oil. It is hard to tell from a scan, I know, but in hand it is quite clear that the coin has not been damaged, hammered, or attacked with corrosives. quote: Originally posted by nancyc

Yes, Nancy, it is a Mob of Roos. Unfortunately I can't tell which year though. quote: Originally posted by Zaggy

I, too, have seen coins that have been altered with corrosives (acids) but this coin has been Struck Through Grease. Unfortunately, my skills with a camera are as bad as my skills with a scanner! quote: Originally posted by Learjet

Yes, I noticed your five-cent strike-through. That's a terrific coin!

Those high square rims are characteristic of 2006 dollars, the 2005 and 2004 mob of roos have much rounder rims, so it is almost certain your coin is a 2006. (Also I have convinced myself that I can just see a 6 on your scan).
