The 1986 Statue of Liberty gold coin is a good one. It is a $5 gold coin. I am thinking if a person could buy one quarter oz. gold coin each month as a long term investment that would be worth doing. It is insurance and probably a good long term investment. To try and out guess the markets in the short term is usually a loser.

I like SilverBugs 1 oz Queen's Beasts gold coins, very nice. You guys have had some great ideas here. I personally tend to gravitate to coins with animals on them, I like that one series from the RCM mint that comes in the assay card but havent bought one yet. I am thinking I want to get 1 oz gold coins going forward that have less than say 50K or less mintage. That knocks out a lot of bullion coins lol. Which brings me into proof gold coins. So I might have trouble there, tho Libertads for now fit the bill. I do like the Pandas tho, with their changing design, while I would prefer a full ounce, I can make an exception for them since they switched to grams.

Recently acquired a small group of classic US gold from my mother-in-law:
Quarter Eagles: 1861, 1914D Half Eagles: 1881, 1907, 1911D
They are all circulated (VF - EF), but the 1911D half eagle is a semi-key which is nice. I can't get a lot of interest in the purely bullion coins, but the US commemorative golds are sometimes pretty nice, I might get into those at some point.

1 oz. gold Maples. Four nines pure, tax free here, and the premium isn't too bad. For higher premium/collector stuff, I work on my world 1 oz. silver bullion collection, where I collect my favorite 1 oz silver coin(s) from each series, from each country. Some of these (especially Perth coins) I've owned in the past at near spot prices, and I'm kicking myself for not holding onto them now! For example, the 2002 Kookaburra is $65 at APMEX now!

Also am a fan of the Mexican 50 Peso, there is nothing quite like feeling that heft in your hand and listening to that sweet ring.

Like Crazyglue, the majority of my collection is series of 1 oz. silver bullion coins. Once I get to a point in my series that I am caught up for the most part I may start collecting some gold as well. I have the gold page in my 7070 and a one oz. 2014 gold Liberty coin but not much else. I pulled out the gold page and as I look at them I am kinda drawn to the 1/2 oz. size. I would never be able to afford to collect 1 oz. coins but perhaps 1/2 oz. "somethings". I do like those 3 1 oz. Queens Beast coins SilverBug! Just out of my price range. Some nice ones on your list as always yupp and the type set is another great idea crazyglue. So much to think about! Enjoyed reading this thread.

Maple Leaves: No nonsense, 24 karat gold, easy to know how much is in your hand. One day I may post my collection if I choose to part with it, but they are full of bite marks and bends. (Street gold testing by me) :D
I don't care about mintage or proof or condition. Y'all know me. 24K doesn't need to be fancy.

Quote: There are other gold bullion coins I like, like the Britannia but I dont dare to buy one because I worry about if I had to sell, I might be waiting forever to sell it lol Just curious, why would it be hard to sell a gold Britannia vs. any other gold bullion coin for?

I have a few Dutch 'gouden tientje'. They've been the predecessor of bullion coinage for decades and are now mainly used as bullion coinage. Same goes for my Swedish 10 and 20 Kronor pieces and my British Sovereigns.
I personally find American gold coins, like the Eagles, way overpriced, actually. Even here those coins have a large premium, which is uncommon for American coins here. I'd be happy to have some Mexican Libertads, although I only have silver ones now. I think I need to go back to Mexico to get hold of them, as Mexico is a paradise for coin collectors.
