Antoninus Pius AR Denarius With Annona Reverse

Here is one of 7 coins I got in the mail yesterday,and my favorite of the lot. I know this emperor's coins are a dime a dozen, but I think the particular style of this one is superb. The bust has a fair bit of relief to it, and looks really nice. The reverse Annona is as fine as I've seen.



Antoninus-Pius-AR-Denarius-With-Annona-Reverse
Antoninus Pius, AD 138-161.
AR Denarius, 18mm, 3.3g, 6h; Rome mint, AD 156-157.
Obv: ANTONINVS AVG PIVS P P IMP II; Laureate head right.
Rev: TR POT XX COS IIII; Annona seated right, holding cornucopia; modius in front.

I had one of these, in VF condition.
It was my first ancient coin, acquired way back in 1967 !
It cost me four dollars (Australian).

vry nice coin . I like the coins of Antoninus ius for the expression of his face .You see on this coin he is an ald sick man .
@Sel : 4 dollars was not expensive and if I remenber well, Australian was cheaper than American . I begun my ancient collection in 1969 . albert

I concur with your assessment with regard to that Annona reverse, and the obverse is also outstanding. That classic "long neck" style portrait is reminiscent of much earlier issues. This particular specimen is far from the "dime a dozen" category.
